Upon the discovery of a delicious forbidden space hop, our astronaut quickly learns that they can power their spaceship with the hop & fly off planet HBC1019 into the unknown. Lose your gravity to unchartered flavours; the blackest of beers with the deepest of golden head.
An interstellar can design was devised to teleport beer enthusiasts to HBC1019. Using a laser foil stock, high builds and white plate combinations, the can design combines cutting edge finishes with space-age illustration, fun compositions, and unique typography.
The Felons marketing team did an awesome job rolling out photography, merchandise and the brand story, and 3D visualiser Jack Hawkins gets huge props for crafting the incredible renders.
The beverage is more than just a celebration of the one-of-a-kind fruit, it’s also an ode to the innovation and ingenuity of the brewers at Felons, enjoying the 4th anniversary of their brewery. The can design was based on existing campaign work I'd done for their 4th Birthday celebration. Inspired by the psychedelic colours of the fruit and it’s South American origins, the can’s design pays homage to Old Western Americana and embodies the satisfying juiciness of the Dragonfruit.

Utilising extensive UV varnishes, we were able to achieve a ribbed wavy texture to the can, so that it feels just as good in hand as it does going down. Alternating metallised finishes mean that all the different design elements stand out amongst one another, and don’t get lost in the vibrant sea of Magentas and Greens.
Once in the hands of the Felons team, the design was turned into Limited Edition merchandise Tee, as well as a case label. I created the 3D render to promote the release prior to launch.
Formed by a shared love of modern American hops, this collaboration sees Felons joining forces with hazy-beer legends Fox Friday to craft this limited release. Abundance and freshness are at the core of this delightful hazy. Packed with sweet juicy grapefruit flavour, top notes of cotton candy and a silky-smooth finish, the can design had to capture both its rich taste and the colliding worlds of these two breweries.
Borrowing from the Fox Friday brand, we utilised alternating matte and metallic finishes on a label print to lift the brewery names off the can. We then flipped the finishes in the centre to create the iconic Felons diamond. Deep colours mimic the richness of the fruity American hops, while the matte high build adds dimensionality – ensuring the beer feels as good in hand as it does going down. It’s a bold can that not only stands out on a shelf, but slots in seamlessly into the lineups of both breweries.
Long time collaborator Jack Hawkins produced these incredible renders.
Galaxy Haze is a brand new core beer from the Brisbane brewery, with a greater focus on the craft and joy of brewing. They've chosen Galaxy Hops to be the signature ingredient in this new brew, and they wanted a new design that broke the mould of the rest of their lineup.
Featuring a stunning half-tone cloud pattern, and through many proof sheets and trial and error, the team at Squad Ink and I delivered a beer can that was both out of this world, and fit right at home under the Story Bridge.
